If you think mosquitoes are attracted to you specifically, you have probably heard mosquitoes love you. Trust us, it’s not your glowing personality or skills that draws these blood suckers in. Your scent could definitely be a factor, but is there anything else that could contribute to their attraction?

What is it about you specifically that makes those mosquitoes bypass everyone else but goes straight to you? What makes you so special to them? Well among other things, it could be the clothes you decided to wear.

How Your Choice Of Clothing Effects Mosquitos

What about your clothing choice of clothing draws mosquitoes to you. Well for one color choice definitely matters especially if you want to avoid mosquito bites. Due to the size of mosquitos eyes dark colors seem to stand out more for them. Therefore, because of the research present with mosquitoes and dark colors, pastel hues might be a better choice to wear.

Colors such as yellow, baby pink, or white work well. Just be mindful out of all the colors you choose to wear, do not pick blue. These little buggers like blue, which is why many mosquito zappers feature a blue light. They seem to be drawn to the color and anything close to it. Therefore definitely a color you want to avoid at an outdoor event if you can.

When it comes to mosquitoes choosing their targets, they usually do so from a distance, like a bush or shrub. So if you’re wearing a black dress or a royal blue baseball cap, they’re more likely to choose you because they can find you easier.

You may also want to lay off on the perfume at an outdoor event. The smell can attract them due to the sweetness and most times, floral notes. So if you just washed your clothes in the laundry and they smell of detergent it can be equally as problematic and can continually attract them.

There are many ways to combat mosquitoes, but which is the best way for your home or business? Fogging systems disperse a chemical mist that kills mosquitoes, for a short period of time.  While a mosquito misting systems use a series of nozzles to release a mixture of things that smothers the insects at certain points in time. So, which is better for my home? A mosquito misting system or fogging the area? Let’s take a closer look.

Fogging

Fogging is a quick fix way to get your yard somewhat bug free. It’s great if you are hosting a party or event in your yard but not for long term use. Fogging sprays a chemical into the grass and surrounding areas making the mosquitos currently there die. This does not account for the mosquito larvae and other bugs.

Not to mention with Florida’s climate it does not work as well because things like the constant sunshine, rain, and even sprinklers can ruin it. All of those things can wipe away the fog and nothing is there to replace it.

When fogging is done it usually can last anywhere from 4-8 hours. An important thing to note is this method doesn’t completely rid of the mosquitos it just reduces the number.

The Mosquito Misting System

When you utilize a SWAT mosquito misting system you are spraying your yard at sunset and sunrise, as well as you have a remote control in which you can turn the system on at your leisure. The reason the system goes off on its own at those two times is because it is when mosquitos are at their peak.

The system sprays a mist of biodegradable, pet safe, pyrethrum which eliminates all the larvae and pupa. The mosquito misting system minimizes the mosquito population and as we say, they move out and we move in.

That Annoying Mosquito Sounds have got to Stop

A mosquito buzzing in your ear on a warm summer night may be the most irritating sound on earth. Summer just wouldn’t be summer without the buzz and tickle of a mosquito in the evening for most Floridians. However, does that have to be the case?

What causes mosquitoes to buzz in your ear?

Does it seem like mosquitoes like to buzz around your ears? Basically, they’re attracted to heat and carbon dioxide, both of which we are constantly exhaling. Every time you exhale, you release a plume of carbon dioxide that potential mosquitoes can smell out and follow. Mosquitoes have sensors around their mouths that allow them to detect carbon dioxide, and this allows them to find you from a distance of up to 50 meters.

It makes sense that some people tend to get targeted more since they naturally produce more carbon dioxide. Those who are larger or heavier exhale more gases, which makes them more likely to be on a mosquito’s radar. Additionally, if you’ve been running and are feeling a little short of breath, you might be surprised at all the mosquitoes trying to keep up with you.

Pregnant women also face greater risks. A study found that pregnant women exhale approximately 20% more carbon dioxide than non-pregnant women, so pregnant women should take extra precautions outside.

What Is the Reason for That Sound?

Is it because they’re bloodthirsty sadists that ruin our summers and keep us awake all night long? I wouldn’t say that. It turns out that the buzzing noise you hear is caused by the flapping motion of the mosquito’s wings, which can actually beat up to 1,000 times per second. Their buzzing sound is believed to change pitch as they increase or decrease the frequency of their flapping, especially when they pursue a mate.

A mosquito’s legendary whine is created by both male and female mosquitoes, though females produce a higher-pitched chirp. It’s possible to hear a male mosquito buzz, but most humans never hear one because they feed off of nectar and plants and leave us alone.

You can #StayOutside all season long with a SWAT Mosquito System if mosquitoes are buzzing in your ears and driving you crazy!
