Wouldn’t it be nice if mosquitoes didn’t exist at all? Or, at the very least, came only during a specific season? Unfortunately, that is not the case. mosquitoes are not only a threat in the summer. While there may be some months out of the year where the population increases even more than usual due to the higher volume of rain, mosquitoes are a legion the entire year.

Mosquitoes Are a Yearlong Battle

mosquito misting systemLiving in Florida, mosquitoes are a year-long problem. Having so many canals, lakes, and large bodies of slow-moving or standing water, coupled with the fact that we have rain all year round, it is almost impossible to step out of the house and not encounter this pest. Even if you have home mosquito control systems, your neighbor might have standing water all over his yard, making it easy for mosquitoes to cross over to your space. With such a long mosquito season, investing in mosquito prevention and removal is a must for Florida homeowners.

Mosquitoes Are Not Just Annoying, They Are Dangerous

Mosquitoes are certainly an annoyance. No one likes going into the yard to get bitten from head to toe and dealing with itching scratching. If that were the extent of the threat, we would probably not care so much about finding the perfect method to eliminate mosquitoes. Given the severity of the diseases, mosquitoes can transmit to humans, it would be irresponsible not to consider effective mosquito removal solutions.

effective mosquito misting systemIt seems that every year there is a new outbreak of some lethal disease, and at the center of it, we always find the mosquito as the main culprit. For example, there’s been a recent outbreak of the deadly Eastern equine encephalitis disease this year. Diseases that were once remote and almost forgotten – like Zika, dengue, yellow fever, and encephalitis – have almost become commonplace. Because of this, having an effective mosquito misting system is becoming more of a necessity and less of a luxury.

Mosquito misting systems play a vital role in protecting humans from the all-too-familiar annoyance of mosquito bites and swarms. But beyond the mere convenience of these systems, they can play a vital role in maintaining the general welfare for the public-at-large. So how do mosquito misting systems accomplish these miraculous feats? The magic of the misting system is largely in the ingredients—which are pyrethrum-based products, as well as wholly organic mixtures.  Regarding mosquito misting systems, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “does not expect risk or concerns to humans”, and thanks to the product’s properties, these misting solutions can successfully thwart some of the most catastrophic mosquito-borne illnesses, some of which are still a present threat at home and abroad.

how effective are mosquito misting systemsBiting Insects Can Cause Serious Health Problems

We have all heard of Zika and how dangerous it can be. The fact is, there are hundreds of diseases and illnesses that are carried and transmitted by biting insects. By having a mosquito misting system, you are dramatically reducing your chances of contracting a mosquito-borne illness. If you take into consideration the likelihood of becoming sick because of mosquitoes and the impact that a misting system can have then, without a doubt, the benefits of a mosquito misting system are apparent.

The Convenience and Effectiveness of Mosquito Misting Systems?

Most people put their home mosquito control system on a timer, the mist is then released every x number of hours following whatever schedule you set. This keeps the insect population in check. Modern mosquito misting systems aren’t just effective, but they offer unparalleled contextuality and convenience, too. Picture this: you are having a BBQ and you are planning on firing up the grill in a little while. Turn the mosquito mist on, let it go through its cycle, and after a few minutes, and once the mist is no longer in the air, you can go outside and enjoy an insect-free get-together, minus the mist and mosquitoes. No complicated set-up and no lengthy and time-consuming processes—just easy-to-use and convenient mosquito elimination.  Like all things, your mosquito misting system’s effectiveness is dependent on how you use it and how often you turn it on.

Everyone wants to make their summer outings as pleasant as possible. Unfortunately, mosquitoes and other biting insects often have different plans and want to crash the party. Hence the search for what is the best insect repellent available. One repellent derived from a natural source is known as Pyrethrum. But what is pyrethrum and how effective is it versus other mosquito repellents?

What is Pyrethrum?

Pyrethrum is a powerful insecticide made from the flowers of the Pyrethrum plant (more commonly known as Chrysanthemum). The oil that is extracted from this plant is a powerful insect repellent.  Pyrethrum has been used for centuries as an insect repellent. While the plant repels a variety of annoying bugs and insects, the insecticide that results from processing the plant is a potent one. Today, Pyrethrum is used as a primary ingredient in most “all-natural” insect repellents and is an essential tool in the fight against no-see-ums and other biting insects.

Probably the most popular way to use Pyrethrum as an insect repellent is as a spray. After the flowers from the plant are dried, they are processed into a pyrethrum spray effective against many types of biting insects. Pyrethrum is also used as an ingredient in many sprays used to kill other insects, including wasps and beetles. It is non-toxic, so it is considered safe for use around children and pets. As with any other insect sprays or similar products, Pyrethrum spray should be used as directed to avoid excessive runoff into waterways.

The Non-Synthetic Choice

Pyrethrum insecticides are at the forefront of plant-based methods for battling against biting insects, as well as insects that attack plants. Because of its origins, many who are looking for non-synthetic chemicals seek this out as a powerful alternative. As such, Pyrethrum is often used as a primary ingredient in mosquito misting systems. Misting systems are the best way to control a mosquito population and protect against biting insects of all types. Misting systems also protect you from diseases spread by these insects, including Zika and the West Nile virus. Customers who have installed mosquito misting systems agree that these systems provide excellent protection against mosquitoes and other biting insects.

Did you know that we have something in Florida called Mosquito-Borne Disease Surveillance? This is a weekly report – called the Weekly Arbovirus Report – monitoring the spread of disease from mosquitoes and other biting insects. It’s run year-round because, unlike most states, the mosquito season in the Sunshine State is a little complicated.

Have you ever asked, “when does mosquito season end in Florida?” You’re not alone. A quick Google search turns up over 18 million results. That’s a lot of people asking the same question. They’re in luck! Today, the biting insect experts at SWAT Mosquito Systems®️ are here to tell you exactly when mosquito season is over!

When is Mosquito Season?

So, when is mosquito season in Florida? Well, that all depends on where in Florida you live. Northern Florida experiences peak no-see-um and mosquito season during the late spring and summer. Southern Florida experiences peak mosquito season…all year round. This is due to the different climate zones of Florida. North and Central Florida are subtropical, while South Florida is simply tropical.

when is mosquito season overYep, thanks to the humid temperature and frequent rainfall, we’re a biting insect’s paradise. Temperature and the average amount of rainfall are the two largest factors in determining how many mosquitos breed in any given location. South Florida has both of these in excess. While our ACs can keep the heat at bay, there isn’t much that can be done about the rain. That’s just nature.

When is Mosquito Season Over?

If the most popular question for many Florida residents is, “when is mosquito season,” then clocking in at a close second is, “when does mosquito season end in Florida?” Unfortunately, it doesn’t. There are certain times in the year when it gets better, though!

Florida’s rainy season is usually between June and October. It can shift – this year it started in mid-May and is expected to continue until November – but these are the general months when it’s both hottest and wettest. These are also the months when mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and all other biting insects come out in force.

Mosquitos need temperatures of at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit and standing water to breed in. They have both during the summer months. So, when does mosquito season end in Florida? It gets better over the fall and winter, but it never really ends.

If mosquito season doesn’t end, then you need to make sure your home is always protected. Sure, you can spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on regular exterminator visits. You can also opt for a more effective, and more cost-effective, mosquito misting system.

These are convenient, automated spray systems that keep your yard free of biting insects. The specially designed SWAT System uses a chrysanthemum-based mist called pyrethrum. Not only does this kill mosquitos quickly and efficiently, but it also stops them from biting before they’re killed. You won’t find more comprehensive no-see-um, mosquito, and biting insect protection! Take a look at some of our systems in action for proof.
